The challenge

The pandemic impacted the workforce availability and delivery capacity of the audit practice at the UK firm, creating a resource crisis. Orders took significantly longer and required additional resources that the firm could not access quickly in the UK market. Adding to the trouble of not having easy access to the office due to lockdown, many were fighting the infection. The situation led to the delayed delivery of critical projects. The sensitive nature of audit services could also adversely impact client businesses and therefore, the grave concern of resource unavailability needed to be addressed within four to five weeks. Coming up with a strategy that would address the resource shortage and timeliness of project deliveries turned out to be a challenge.

What we did

After several rounds of discussions and deliberations, the Indian firm extended a helping hand and the two firms decided to work together. Project Eminence started fundamentally as a response to the UK firm’s crisis with a team of 15 members.

The collaboration witnessed its own set of challenges. The teams had to operate in a unified manner and execute deliverables promptly. Apart from this, ensuring cultural sensitivity towards each other and different working styles was also crucial. Therefore, choosing the right members for the work and ensuring cultural fitment and advanced technologies became imperative. Moreover, the team also catered to additional demands and established stability and sustainability.

The team was utilised as an asset for multiple service lines, including commercial audit, financial services audit, pension assurance audit and public sector audit. The feedback given to the UK firm from Indian members was timely and helped in upscaling. The critical aspects for this project to work were constant engagement, one-on-one connection and the development of stronger bonds, which went beyond the business.
