Vikas Vasal appointed as Global Tax Head for Grant Thornton International

With focus on growing international business, Vikas Vasal, National Managing Partner, Tax, Grant Thornton Bharat LLP, has been appointed as the Global Tax Head for Grant Thornton International Ltd.

On the appointment, Peter Bodin, CEO, Grant Thornton International Ltd, said, “With the network strategy’s focus on growing and protecting our international business, I am delighted that Vikas has agreed to take on this crucial role and bring his world-class expertise to the global stage.” .

Adding, Vikas Vasal said, “I look forward to bringing my experience from the dynamic India market to the benefit of the global organisation, including a renewed focus on tax technology and on global delivery.” Vasal is part of the leadership team of Grant Thornton Bharat and joined the firm in 2016 after spending over 20 years with another large firm in New Delhi, including a stint in New York. He is a regular speaker at international tax conferences and is a sought-after commentator in the media.

Recognising that this is perhaps the first appointment of an India based partner to lead a service line globally for a major accounting firm, Vishesh C Chandiok CEO of Grant Thornton Bharat LLP said, “Having been a part of the Grant Thornton network since its formation, we have always been at the forefront of helping the evolution of our global network and I am confident Vikas’s appointment will further that contribution.”

Grant Thornton was the first major accounting firm to host its global partners conference in India in 2013, Vishesh became the youngest member of the GTIL’s Board of Governors when he joined in 2015, and in 2019 Grant Thornton Bharat became the first Indian firm to announce a voluntary ban to render even permitted non- audit services to its India based Listed audit clients.
