Key insights from the Automotive Dealtracker Q3 2026

Q3 2026 witnessed a significant recovery in deal activity with 33 deals valued at USD 1.7 billion, with transaction volumes increasing by 65% and values more than doubling over the previous quarter. The increase was driven by stronger M&A activity, higher PE investment values, and renewed public-market fundraising.

PE activity improved quarter-on-quarter by 23% in both volume and value, with investment worth USD 419 million across 16 deals, led by investments across EV manufacturing, battery technologies, charging infrastructure, and mobility platforms. River Mobility's USD 120 million fundraise emerged as the largest private investment of the quarter, accounting for 29% of overall PE values.

M&A activity recorded its highest quarterly volumes till date with 12 transactions worth USD 389 million. While volumes increased 140% quarter-on-quarter, deal values rose 182%, driven primarily by Hero MotoCorp's cumulative USD 285 million investment in Ather Energy, which accounted for nearly 73% of total M&A value. Domestic transactions led M&A activity, accounting for 75% of deal volume and 87% of value.

Public market activity emerged as a key contributor to overall deal values during the quarter, with two IPOs raising USD 428 million and three QIPs raising USD 418 million. Dhoot Transmission and Hero Motors led IPO activity, while Belrise Industries, Ather Energy and SPR Auto Technologies successfully raised growth capital through QIPs.

The automotive sector is moving into a new investment cycle driven by the transformation of mobility itself. Capital is no longer concentrated only on vehicle manufacturers but is increasingly being deployed across the broader ecosystem, including batteries, charging infrastructure, automotive technology and mobility platforms. This indicates that investors are backing the infrastructure and capabilities needed to support the next phase of mobility growth in India.
